How to stay positive during COVID-19 situation?

“COVID-19 had disrupted our normal, daily life.”

And… we had to stay at home to fight for the virus during the lockdown period.

People lost their jobs and income, or some employees are forced to work from home. Everyone is being depressed as the news reported the number of positive cases is uprising every day.

It seems that there is nowhere to hide in this world to avoid COVID-19 anymore…

Arrgghh…. what should we do?!

Okay, here is the deal… After going through all these since January in Hong Kong, I have concluded some useful tips, which will help you to get over the COVID-19 lockdown period.

1. Read some books

Bill Gates once said, Reading is still the main way that I both learn new things and test my understanding.”

And I believe what he said is true and applies to our daily lifes.

Let me tell you a story.

Last year, I attended a Christmas dinner with at my parent’s place. During that time, I had a chat with my brother and asked him if he read any interesting books recently.

What surprises me most is the response, he said, “I have been studied for so many years and I don’t wanna read ANY books to build up my knowledge….”

Wow…. This really scares me!!!! If you are one of them, please don’t follow this and listen carefully…

Find something that you have no idea and interests to start with, let say, build a robot, gardening, finance, accounting, cooking and etc…

Start from there… Go and pick a book, or magazine and read about it, or even type the keyword to search on google.

Since we are all at COVID-19 lockdown period, we have plenty of time. If not, spend at least 10 to 15 minutes a day to read, you will eventually see a difference in your life in the coming next 2-3 months time.

2. Meditate Daily

This is the hardest thing to do, especially we are all living in a world with full of distractions.

The good thing about COVID-19 lockdown period is that I tend to have more time on meditation.

All you need to do is to spare yourself 5 minutes at least. Sit down quietly somewhere and stay focus on your breath.

I was having insomnia for weeks when COVID-19 first started in China. I was staying and working in Hong Kong. Imagine China is so close to Hong Kong, and every day I heard a lot of news about the number of positive cases are increasing.

What I did to calm myself down is to meditate 5 minutes per day.

I am feeling calm and being mindfulness after meditating for 3-4 days.

So trust me, it works!

3. Take an online course

During the first couple weeks of COVID-19 lockdown, all I did every day is laying on my couch, watching Netflix and soft drinks, and play mobile games.

Suddenly, one day, I stopped doing it.

I felt guilty that I am wasting my time doing all those unnecessary things… So I went online course learning platform like edX, Coursera, Udemy etc to search for anything I want to learn.

Do I still play mobile games and watch Netflix?

Yes I do… But… I also spend couple hours at online learning, so that I can get myself prepared when the COVID-19 lockdown is over.

Lessons learnt; use the lockdown period to get yourself prepared for the next journey. There is an awful lot more we can achieve in our life.

Stop wasting time and work hard now!

3. Keep close contact with family and friends

I have been living outside without my parents for more than 7 years now. Our relationships aren’t very close since we seldom contact each other.

We only met each other during Christmas or New Year period due to a busy work life.

During COVID-19 lockdown, I tend to spend more time and communicate with my parents. Somehow I felt that the COVID-19 strengthens my bonding with my family and reunite with some of my old friends.

4. Home exercise

As I said before, I was sitting on the couch and watching Netflix, with soft drinks with me all the time right?

Well, that was just the beginning… I was having junk food, and booze daily….

And what’s worst, I realised that I have gained an awful lot of weight because of that…

So I decided to start doing some simple exercises at home, like plank, burpees and some cardio exercises. Eventually, I feel much better and getting healthier by getting better sleep quality at night.

And what’s important is, I am getting physically fit eating healthy food since ever after.

Besides, staying healthy with a strong immune system will save lives during COVID-19?
